New for Valentine's Day!

New for Valentine's Day!

Today we are excited to finally (officially) launch our line of custom bookmarks and AirTag holders using our trademark full grain veg tan Italian leather and solid brass! Just time time for Valentine's Day, take advantage of fast, free shipping and an enormous slate of personalization options.

Bookmarks!

As a creative writing major and former English teacher, I have collected "bookmarks" for as long as I can remember. I put bookmarks in italics because only rarely are the slips of paper that I use to keep my place designed for that purpose. Instead, this stack of miscellany is made up of post cards, business cards, color swatches, playbills, movie tickets, promotional pamphlets, letters of rejection, Pokémon cards, pet profiles from the local animal shelter, and maybe just once, a speeding ticket. I always find something poetic about marking my physical place in a book with a physical memory.

It is from my odd assortment of placeholders that I got the idea to add bookmarks to the Studio Hall lineup. As is our wont, our bookmarks are made with full grain veg tan leather from Tuscany, carefully burnished for a delightful smoothness, and finished with solid brass. We are starting with "natural" unfinished Pecos Raw leather from Bretagna tannery because it accepts laser engraving so beautifully. Natural veg tan will start the patina process almost immediately and age beautifully over time. We will eventually offer other colors, but for now you can get your chroma fix by customizing the riveted tag at the top of each bookmark!

Pick one of our mostly literary default laser designs or upload your own! The world, whichever one your bookmark is currently inhabiting, is your oyster.

 AirTag Holders!

Ok, this is a fun one. We have had the concept for AirTag holders floating around for a long time, but recent headlines accelerated our plans. If you haven't seen, Apple no longer offers a line of leather accessories for its products, and this extends to its partners like Hermès. Their reasoning, which I do empathize with, is that leather production can have a larger carbon footprint than some synthetics, and Apple itself is attempting to be as carbon-neutral as possible in the manufacture of its products. At Studio Hall, we have always been and will always be huge proponents of minimizing our impact on the natural world. Our leather comes from certified Tuscan tanneries that use modern techniques to reduce energy and water consumption and our durable hardware is solid iron or brass, not plastic.

Part of being responsible in the manufacture of personal accessories is accounting for repairability. Our hand-stitched leather goods are extremely repairable. If a thread breaks, we can resew. If a snap breaks free, we can replace it. This simply is not practical or worthwhile for most mass-produced materials and therefore they end up in a landfill. We want desperately to keep our goods out of the trash, partially because we are very proud of our work, but also because this is the first step to buying fewer things, less often.

We are also invested in diversifying our offerings into even more eco-friendly materials like waxed canvas, which will be available starting later this year. Leather production, high quality or low, is a product of the meat industry and would not exist in a meaningful way without it. If the day comes when global meat consumption begins to drop, we will welcome the benefits with open arms and pivot our business model to focus less on leather, but for now, high quality, full grain vegetable-tanned leather is one of our oldest, most durable, and most desirable materials, and we are thrilled to be your guide.
