About

My name is Thomas Hall, and I am the craftsman behind Studio Hall. My wife, Courtney, and our dog, Belle, are my whole world. Two years ago, we moved from Prosper, Texas, where I grew up and lived a 7-year teaching career, to beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. Our family loves to read, craft, cook, and discover new board games. Ours is a home filled with laughter, and we will always beat any obstacle together.
I started working with leather in 2019 because it seemed like an incredible way to combine my love of design, photography, teaching, and writing. What began as a stumbling, halting hobby very soon led to hours upon hours of videos, blog posts, research, and practice. I had no idea leather craft would become such a passion. After teaching high school English for seven years and earning at Masters of Education Leadership, I took the leap into small business ownership, and now focus on building Studio Hall full time. My cardholders and wallets' namesakes are references to poetry terms as an homage to my creative writing degree and career as an English teacher.
Truth and transparency are extremely important to me, which is why I use the very best full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, solid brass, and stainless steel. I source my materials from only the most trusted tanneries and suppliers who have commitments to sustainability and innovation. When you purchase a product that I make, you are supporting not only me, but other artisans who care deeply about what they put into the world. Leather is one of our oldest resources, and its durability, class, and quality cannot be matched by synthetics. I take the time to create products that I can be proud of, and my goal is to hand down pieces of heirloom quality with as much intentionality as possible.
One of the driving factors of creating my own business was to craft a lifestyle where my family comes first, ethical labor is paramount, and creativity can overrule drudgery. I suffered painfully from burnout relatively early in my education career, which left me feeling hurt and disappointed, not least of which with myself. I knew that there had to be a better way forward for my mind, body, and relationship with those around me. This is that project.
I take the time to do things the way I want them done. While I have sewing machine for large projects, each and every wallet and watch strap is saddle-stitched by hand. I have a selection of ready-to-ship wallets, and an ever-rotating menu of leather for custom orders, and I do accept limited commissions for leather designs.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to get to know me and my family, and for learning about the handmade products that I love so deeply. Take care!
-Thomas
